The new site of Liaoning Provincial Museum is located to the northeast of the Central Plaza, Hunan District, Shenyang. With an area of 83,200 sq.m and building area of 100,013 sq.m, it is mainly divided into five function areas such as exhibition area, cultural relic warehouse, visitor service center, relic preservation work area and comprehensive business area. Exhibition Area: it has building area of 42,979sq.m, and the usable area of total 22 exhibition halls is 24,101sq.m. The usable area of the exhibition halls on the first floor is 8,739 sq.m, mainly used for temporary exhibitions of history, cultural relics and art introduced from home and abroad. Another three exhibition halls are for collected cultural relic exhibitions, such as the proposed Ancient Chinese Epitaphs, the Porcelain Wares of the Ming and Qing Dynasties and the Jades of the Ming and Qing Dynasties. There are six exhibition halls on the second floor, with usable area of 5,437 sq.m, proposed for exhibiting the collected Liao porcelain wares, currencies, Buddhism statue, royal seals, bronze mirrors and Manchu folk custom. The third floor will house permanent exhibitions based on the theme of Ancient Liaoning, in five halls with usable area of 9,925sq.m. Another three halls will be used for exhibition of collected cultural relics, such as the proposed calligraphic works, paintings and silks. Visitor Service Center: with an area of 11,171sq.m, it comprises multifunction lecture hall, VIP hall, Minor’s Activity Center, Volunteer Activity Center, Member Center, Audiovisual Studio, Souvenir Shop, Visitor Experience Center, etc. Cultural relic storeroom: located on basement level one and covering 10,019 sq. m of building area, it has 18 cultural relic storerooms as well as sterilizing room, photographic studio, viewing room and sorting room etc supporting facilities for cultural relic. Relics Preservation Work Area: with building area of 7,456sq.m, it comprises Relics Repairing Room, Relics Reproduction Room, Relics Technical Protection Lab, and Expert Studio. Comprehensive Business Area: with building area of 13,110sq.m, it mainly comprises Exhibition Center, Information Center, Scientific Research Center, Cultural Exchange Center, Training Center, Library and other rooms. Moreover, copper relief sculptures were created by taking Liaoning historical culture as theme and hung on front screen wall and six walls on two flanks in the lobby of new museum, thus showing the long history and splendid civilization of Liao River Basin, and enhancing strong cultural connotation to the new museum. Arranged towards clockwise from the right front of the main relief sculpture named “the first light of civilization” , 13 sculptures are, in order, “the Northern Ancient State”、“Pioneer frontiers and Territory Expansion”、“Unified Huaxia(China)”、“Develop Eastern and Southern Parts of Liaoning”、“Spread Confucianism to the North”、“Yingzhou in Sui and Tang Dynasties”、“Revitalization in Qidan”、“Dongjing in Jin Dynasty”、“the First Border Area of Nine Frontiers”、“the Rise of Manchu ”、“the Northeast Reunification”、“Prelude of National Anthem”, vividly demonstrating the development history of Liao River culture with artistic image in high generation and deserving to be enjoyed slowly as a special in this new Liaoning Provincial Museum. The new Liaoning Provincial Museum, after being built up and open to the public, will intend to develop itself into a national museum which is the largest in the Northeast region, first-class in China and well-known in the world, with the first class facilities, functions, management systems, service teams and exhibition levels, and it will play an active role in preserving and carrying forward the excellent cultural heritage of the Chinese nation, publicizing the advanced human culture, satisfying the spiritual and cultural life of the public, and promoting the prosperity and development of Liaoning cultural undertaking.
